One More Chance by Abbi Glines

Description:

Grant Carter did everything in his power to convince Harlow Manning that he was a good guy. More than a smooth-talker and someone she could trust. He had to overcome his reputation as a playboy, and his history with Harlow's half-sister, Nan, a woman with a reputation of her own.

Harlow had taken the chance, falling hard and fast for the guy who thrilled her with his all-consuming desire. After a lifetime of avoiding bad boys like Grant, she had opened herself to the possibilities of love...

But a life-changing secret has torn them apart, and now Grant and Harlow must decide if they have enough fight to make it work - or if the pain of betrayal has permanently destroyed their future.

VA's Review:

I am a huge fan of Abbi Glines Rosemary Beach series and this book is no exception! Last time we saw Grant and Harlow, they had finally decided to take a chance on each other, only to have Harlow's health problems to become shared with the entire world. Needless to say, Grant who's fears kept him from being with Harlow, did not react well to the news, leaving Harlow with no choice but to walk away.

This story picks up a few months later with Harlow staying with her brother Mase. She has a new secret that she wants so desperately wants to protect. She ignores the nightly calls from Grant not because she doesn't love him (she does), but because she doesn't think he can handle this new secret.

Grant has been calling Harlow's phone every night leaving a message and bugging Rush for any news he has on her. You feel his pain and get to see the Grant that we all know and fell in love with. Once he finally  gets to Harlow, they face many obstacles together and work toward the HEA.

Now, I am a Grant girl, I have to say, and I was heartbroken at Grant's reaction at the end of Take A Chance, but I was glad to see that he came to his senses and fought for Harlow and learned from his mistakes.

I was also pleasantly surprised by another character in this book, who I won't mention because I don't want to spoil it for you. But let's just say, Grant isn't the only one who did some growing up in this book.

This was Abbi Glines best work so far. She really tugged at the heart strings and made a very compelling story. You really felt the struggle that Harlow was going through as well as Grant's need to protect what was his.

Freed by Stacey Kennedy

Description:

Mary Schmidt knows only too well how thrilling a Master’s touch can be. Her husband, Charles, had been her ultimate fantasy, a seducer in the erotic dance of dominance and submission. She misses the sensual lifestyle they shared, but mourns him so deeply she cannot bear to embrace her submissive needs with another Dom—until a man who exudes temptation reawakens desires she can no longer deny.

Elliott Foster is dazzled by Mary. He instantly knows that she’s the woman he’s been waiting for—a woman who turns games into need. As her Master, he dares to unlock the deepest pleasures of her flesh, releasing her from pain and healing her mind. When Mary’s lithe body comes to life under his, he knows their connection goes beyond sex. Now that he has found the perfect woman, the perfect partner, the perfect submissive, he desires only to give her everything she craves.

VA's Review:

Great job for Stacey Kennedy on this book. Usually her protagonists at Club Sin are part of the younger crowd but this is a couple in their 50's and Ms. Kennedy did a great job conveying their struggles, and their love.

Mary is the doctor that we have seen in the previous Club Sin books  Mary lost her husband (and Dom) 4 years ago to cancer and has since made the decision to leave the lifestyle. The story starts when Mary  meets Elliott, a business associate (and fellow Dom), at Dmitri's house and the two have an instant connection. Mary however is uneasy about this connection, which Elliot senses.

"I want to play with you Mary. Stop lying to yourself so I can."

After Elliott offered her an invitation to play with him, she agrees and goes to his party. She does struggle there and throughout the book with her feelings for Elliott and her late husband. Elliott discovers her struggles and tries to help her. He tries to get her to understand that she can still love her husband and allow herself to love someone else too.

"I can share your heart, but only so far...There is room inside of that sweet heart of yours for both of us."

You felt for Mary throughout the book as she tried to move on with her life and yet still respect what she had with her late husband.

Ms. Kennedy does a great job conveying those thoughts that both Mary and Elliott are going through in a respectful and realistic way.

I look forward to reading her next book! I can't wait to see what Preston has in store!
